Muffler Required in Missouri?
Muffler Required in Missouri?
Does anyone know what the regulations are? I plan on putting in a new cat when I do my exhaust because I don't want to pollute any more than I have to, but I'd rather not run a muffler. Anyone know what the deal is on this? Can I license the car without a muffler?

I have no muffler on my car in NJ.... one of the most strict states in the country as far as car regulations go.
i have had no muffler for about two years now and it sounds great. I just went through NJ Inspection yesterday and passed even though there is no muffler on there and it is required!
I have a Monza Pace Setter Cat back, except where the muffler is supposed to sit, it dumps the exhaust into a U pipe out the back into "stock looking" dual tips. A great setup in my opinion. Go for it!

mufflers are just for sound, not emissions except for the fact they keep the HP and TQ bands in the stock places. Without it and without tuning the car to run without it you might fail.

I'm sure they are required in every state but most testing facilities assume you have one and don't look under your car for it. If you don't want to run one, then you probably aren't risking too much, and you can always add it later if you need it. I'd say go without it.

An exhaust shop did mine for me.... they just told me up front that they arent responsible for any legal trouble I get in for not having a muffler and if I fail inspection that it is nobody's falt but my own.
