Exhaust system
Exhaust system
I just bought my formula, its a 1988 Formula and its sweet. Im putting a new exhaust system on and I have a few questions since I really am very new to this and have no clue about anything. I am buying the muffler first and would appreciate any help. here is my question. I am buying a Hookerheaders Specific Fit Aero Chamber Muffler people said it is good and I read that it increase HP and air flow pretty good, I have enough money for the muffler only so Im gonna buy it first. I was then going to buy the hookerheaders cat back system, dont laugh if this is like totaly wrong, but my question is when I get this muffler can I put the cat back on, which one should I get and is this even possible if I get this muffler, remind you I have no clue what a cat back is I just heard it is good on this board I will have a proffesional install it I want my car to sound good and pick up some speed, also I saw on the car part place that there is a performance catalytic converter that also increases airflow and since I know nothing about exhaust should I replace mine if I get this aerochamber then the cat back and will it all fit the headers and what are the problems with what Im doing, any help would be greatly appreciated I hope you understand what Im trying to do
Hope this helps:
1) A "cat-back" system is the section of exhaust piping (including muffler)from the rear of the catalytic converter back towards the rear of the car (thats why the package usually comes w/ a muffler and some sort of finishing tip (depending on brand and price).
I don't think you should buy a muffler and then turn around later and but a "cat back" system. You will be buying a muffler twice (in a sense). Can I make a suggestion? Wait! Save the money and get the "cat back", yes I know the agony of waiting can be almost unbearable but I believe you will be happier in the end. This is just a suggestion though. When you decide what you want may I suggest getting some headers too. The headers will really let your car breathe and are a really good "bang-for-the-buck" add-on. Hope this helps.

Ok I will save my money and buy the whole cat back system. I saw one that looks good from hookerheaders and I heard great things about them, but you guys know more than anyone and I would love if you shared with me what brand I should get for my 88 formula 350, the one from hookerheaders is 340 I really dont care how much I pay just as long as its the best for my car and produces the most HP and torque, so if you guys know of another one that you would just die to recommend that that would be great, also I was wondering if the cat back would give me the most air flow, what will work better if I replace my muffler with the specific fit aerochamber or the whole catback, Im pretty sure Im gonna get the catback I just want the most airflow for the buck, later I will get headers but they are expensive and prolly expensive to have installed, thanks for the help guys you've been great..
