will exhaust system help...?
hey, im very close to finally doing my headers and the rest of the exhaust system. i was just wondering if it was worth it for me to actually go thru with it, i mean it is a lot of $, and i want to know what it will really do. well, i have a 92 305 tbi. i plan on putting on the hooker comps, than running a single 3" pipe to my flowmaster 50 3 chamber mufflers. now i want to know, what difference in horsepower, am i looking at? and what difference in 0-60 will it make? i already have the k&n airfilter put on. please let me know the difference in hp thanks.

exhaust doesn't add horsepower, it just frees up horsepower that is lost by your engine's lack of breathing. a new exhaust system will give you the power that you would have otherwise lost, and the more modifications you do the more important it is to have a less restricted exhaust system. hope this will clear things up for you.
Its worth it. May not be cheap, but as soon as its all done it'll take a week before you stop grinning like a fool. I can't wait to have the $$ together for the headers and high flow cat. (I could just ditch it but the flowmaster sounds much better with one IMO, plus no funky smell) Just putting the cat back on mine made it sound way better, and it pulls noticably better up top. I'll bet it'll take more than 1/2 second of your 0-60 if you do the whole system, headers to tailpipes.

I went SLP headers and catback with a Catco cat and yes it does free up alot of HP even on my 305 TPI. As I found out when you do that either make your own or invest in a new way of getting more air in the motor and that will also free up some more horses along with the headers.

I'll say it: Good headers and a high flowing exhaust will "add horsepower" to your car - i.e., enabling it to increase (add to) the rate at which work is performed. You can expect about a 20 hp increase or better, depending upon what else you do to optimize the flow increase.
