have any of you had your headers glow red hot. i started my 408 for the first time today and they were glowing red hot. i also have jet hot coating on them. i don't think this should be happening. is there something wrong?
it was running open headers. all i have is the headers and the y pipe connected. i don't know if this affects anything

The reason why your headers are glowing red is either:
A: Your timing is severly retarded ....... or
B: Your motor is running lean
Good luck

as for burning the valve, i heard that, that will only happen if you run it with nothing on at all. it burns the valve due to the dramatic change in temp. i have the headers and the y pipe on so i should be fine. i'm doing the timing today so i'll see what happens. thanks alot

yes they have the air 'stuff' on them....
I have a set of 2055's for sale if anyone's interested...still in the plastic bag from Hooker...they ARE missing the Y pipe...but a local shop could make one up for you

starter problems with hookers..
Anyone experience any starter problems after installing 2055's? Seems mine is giving me problems...at least I think it's starter.
Had to replace alternator after the headers went in....thinking just a coincidence cause it was suspect before the headers.....
Now, seem to be having starter issues....
Voltmeter reads a constant 13 or little over volts when running. Doesn't seem to really pout on a huge charge after starting, but sometimes when starting (especially after engine hot and been running awhile), the starter will just tick, tick, tick until I make sure i have all electrical turned off and the door closed...then it seems to start a little better....
I wrapped the headers with thermo tec to where the y pipe hooks on hoping that would force some heat down the tubes....
anyone with any ideas?

Heat is definetly a concern with long tubes. Notice my starter... This is fairly cheap, generic heat shield material with metal strappings ordered directly through summitracing.com. As you know, ceramic coating also helps slow heat transfer. A mini starter will also help (not necessary) due to its parts being farther away from the header.

whats the part number for the hookers without the AIR tubes? i know the 2055's come witha y pipe, but the other ones dont.. the other pair is a shortie and you have to get the y pipe seperate... i dont want the air tubes there. Ill save that money for coating. good looks with the headers man... i cant wait to get everything up this spring!
