CAn i "coat" my own headers??

is there any product they sell that i can use to spray on headers and make them "jet hot coated" per se? and are flowtech headers any good? do they come with the AIR smog attachments?

Ceramic coatings such as Jethot are baked on. Even the local shop here in Calgary won't let you see how they apply the coating because of copyrights. I know it's similar to how they do powdercoating. Electrostatic charge, spray the coating on, then bake it.

Mine are coated. Guarenteed for life that they won't chip, peal or rust. The only guarentee they won't give is if you burn them. ie. run the engine too lean.

Who does coating in Calgary? I didn't think there was anyone locally.

There's two types of ceramic header coatings for sale. Retail which air dries and shop which requires baking. Both require the use of a paint gun. A few people have bought junker ovens to bake them, since just like powder coating the over is no longer safe to cook with. Other then that, can't help you check out these sites, they sell the stuff and have some FAQs.

Top Gun coatings does it here. Headers are sent from all over Alberta to them to get coated. My BBC supercomps cost $250 to get coated. I think a set of shorties is about $150 or so.

I'd get the stainless Edelbrocks from my truck done also if I had another vehicle to drive while the headers were off but that ain't going to happen

Hi,

I have some Edelbrock 6872's which I painted with VHT1600 degree paint. First I chemically stripped them of all black preservative paint, then I painted them with the VHT, and baked them in an electric lab oven. I followed VHT recommendations and heated them with the 3-step process.

I ended up with a diamond hard finish that doesn't chip, and after one summer shows no signs of discoloration or rust.

This might be an alternative to coatings if you are simply looking for exterior appearance. There's pictures of them on my website, I believe. Oh heck, I guess I could just embed a graphic into this message for you and save you the trouble...

Does anybody know where there is a sort of "tech article" on coating headers yourself. It looks like a great deal if you buy the supplies and coat your own. I'd just like to see some more details. Thanks
