what would happen if i took off the tail pipes that come off of the muffler??

would it sound better/louder?

would it hurt anything?

and third and most importantly...would i see any hp or torque gains?

i can't think it would help or hurt.

one thing to think about would be that the exhaust gas might go places you don't want when you're sitting still. i'd want my exhaust to exit at the edge of the car, not under the car where it could be trapped or accumulate. you might smell the exhaust more at stoplights.

well mine came apart at the weld on the muffler on one side and a 6-8 inch tube came out with it. It made it a little louder but i could not feel any hp gain. Also after a 20 minute drive I was higher than a kite. I would suggest just getting an aftermarket muffler like a flowmaster or something like that they are made to rumble low when stopped and get nice and loud when you hammer it. Plus it will be much less restrictive than the stock-type.
