People with Edelbrock T.E.S. Headers....come on in...
Hey guys..I think I might get a set of the coated Edelbrock T.E.S. headers for my 1991 Z28 Camaro 5.7 TPI. For the guys that have installed them....how hard was the installation? I buddy of mine said that he installed his through the top.....he didn't have to jack the engine up or anything. Did you guys have many problems with the installation?? And comments/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Fellas!
I installed mine from the top. Really wasn't that bad at all. Drivers side was installed in about 20 minutes. Passenger side took 2 hours. I had to move some things to get it in. The air tubes were cut off so that helped a lot with the installation. Who needs that emission crap anyways.

I also installed mine from the top, although I did have to remove the driver's side motor mount bolt and jack up the engine cuz the steering linkage would not let the header go thru. That was the hardest side for me to do. Passenger side was easier. I had removed all my smog stuff and the big A/C box out of the way. But everything went well and the improvement in low end torque is noticeable. And so far since I re-routed my plug wires, none of them have been burned.
There are some close clearances with the driver's side header being very close to a brake line and the oil cooler lines. I have about a quarter of an inch space between the lines and the flange. However I don't think the heat from the collector pipe is anywhere near enough to cause any damage.
But overall the job wasn't too bad. I would plan on it being a weekend project, so you have time to do the headers and take it to the exhaust shop for any cutting or welding you may have to do to the Y pipes.

I have had my TES's in & out several times. The first time, with the AIR tubes on were the hardest, but not impossible. Pass side went in from the top after all the spark plugs, valve cover & temp sensor were removed. Drivers side went in from the top also, after the steering shaft was disconnected, I didn't have to jack up the engine, though. I had some issues of burning plug wires on the AIR tubes, so later I remove the headers, cut the tubes off, welded them shut & had them Jet-Hot coated.

Ok.....hmmm.....how about the Hedman shorties without air tubes? Anyone running these? How bad was the installation. I'm thinkin..if I can get a set without the air tubes (cheaper) in the future....if I need airtubes....could I just buy a set.....and get have them installed into the headers? JEGS has a precoated set of hedman shorties all ceramic coated for $258.00.....dosen't say if it comes with a y-pipe or anything though......
I don't think the headmans come with a Y pipe. If they did I figure they'd cost more than 258 bucks.
For the rest of you guys with the Edelbrocks,,,did any of you grind the welds inside the primaries? I've heard you're supposed to do this in order to take full advantage of these headers. However if there are any gains from doing this it would probably be very minimal.
