Have a question about the hooker cat back

Ok, for a b-day gift for my brother I am getting him an exhaust sytem for his 82 Z. Question I have is, will the model for the 305-350 TPI work on his car? I hear the I-pipe for the earlier years is 2.5" and the TPI models is 3". He wants the 3", but i dont wanna get it and have major fit problems. Would I be ok in gettin the 3" setup?

The 3" I-pipe went on my 82 TA w/out any problems.

The system my friend got for his 85 Z28 with the LG4 was a 3" i-pipe but it had a reducer on the end of it to accomodate his 2.5" cat.

whats the point of having a reducer from 3 inch to 2.5 your just gonna have a bottle neck at the point where the exhaust is funneled into the 2.5 inch, and your not going to exerience the full 3 inch effect, I would get a 3 inch cat to accomidate the change in pipe size, although I have no cat, it pays to have a car dealer as a brother.. I get inspection stickers like no tomorrow
