flowmaster systems

Ok I have been reading through and getting confused on things.

I want a new catback for my car, the loudest flowmaster can get me.

Is that the american thunder system? I have currently just a flowmaster muffler with dual outs. Is that an 80's series? Is the 40's the loud one? Mine doesnt seem loud at all. I dont care about how many outlets there are, I want some sound.

I was always under the impression that the 40 series was the loudest, and the second loudest was the 80 series. But according to flowmasters site, the 80 series is louder then the 40.

My buddy has a 5.0 T-Bird with dual 40 series mufflers, and my car is quite a bit louder then his. Maybe if you got the 3" pipeing it would be louder. My American Thunder system (3" to a 80 series muffler) is not even close to being quiet.

But ive also read on here people swearing the 40 series is louder.

The delta flow stuff is quieter than the non-delta flow stuff. I know that much. As for the rest...

yeah, i really like the sound of the 40 series and i think that its louder. but if im not mistaken, it will be ouder with a 3" inlet and 3"outlet so i would buy a cat-back so you can have that 3"pipe. or you could always install a cutout, im not sure how much an electric cutout is but that would be awsome:hail:

If yor looking for just "raw" loud....then..you definently want a cutout......it's great...cause..I mean the 80 series flowmaster is pretty loud anyway.....so..I can have the volume of that...or the volume of the cutout. The cutout is probably......6 times louder than a muffler...and by the flip of a switch...you can have it quiet.....or loud as he**! I have my stereo up around about 20...and my exhaust even drowns it out....and...I'm still adding a set of headers this spring too. Now..this is all on a 5.7.....so..I'm not sure if it would sound different ona 5.0.....but...just to warn you...hahaha....it sounds like a damn NASCAR...but....then..by the flip of a switch....it has the flowmaster loud....the best of both worlds....which is good too......that's how I want it to sound...and I love it!

A cut-out is very loud, especially if you put a hi-flo cat on. With the exception of the cat you are basically running straight pipes. If you want any louder than that then just go open headers I was happy with my cut-out and enjoyed the extremely loud sound of my exhaust. It's nice when you hear from your neighbor that they can hear you when you get home over a block away

i believe those charts reflect the tone, and not necessarily the sound level. either way, both mufflers would probably be plenty loud. yes, you have the 80 series. the 40 series should be the loudest.
