i want to upgrade the exhaust of this car, questions...

1. do i want to go headers with a y pipe into a single pipe and dual outlets from the muffer?
2. whats is the cat converter? is it that thing that is up near the engine, or on the main exhaust pipe in the back that looks like a muffler kinda thing under the car?
3. any comments?

p.s. would like nice clean somewhat loud exhaust, but have a nice loud stereo dont wanna clash...

I can run straight pipes and still hear my music fine. Its loud as crap, but so is my sterio.
