Which cat back system is best Borla, flowmaster american thunder, magnaflow, or other
Which exhaust systme should i get for my 1991 camaro 350ci. with dual cats? The main ones i am comcidering are borla, american thunder by flowmaster, and magnaflow. I am also open to other systems too i have seen mac, slp, hooker, random. When i say best i meen which is the loudest best sounding, highest quolity and will last longest (stainless steel) and how does aluminumized steel hold up? Most important, which will give me the most extra ponies (horse power!). I am also very interested about how it looks now and in the future including the tips and the rest of they entyre system.
Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Does the Banks still exit on the driver's side? I haven't seen one in aobut 15 years.
Back in '87 when my buddy bought a 350 IROC, we put that on his car. It was from the manifold back. All stainless and sounded great. Nobody was to fond of the tailpipes but they grew on me.
Anybody got any pictures?
Oh, SLP makes a good exhaust.

I am very happy with the MAC system. Very loud, nice sounding. Excellent install. Spend the extra cake for the Chrome tips though. I didn't and regretted it so much, that
I just removed the tailpipes, sand blated them, and sent them out to be nickel plated.
The whole system connectes together with flanges. If you ever need to take it apart down the road, say to do a fuel pump, no clamps, rusted together pipes, or any of that non-sense.

There are alot of good sounding exhausts, but my vote went to Flowmaster.

I bought the Hooker cat-back. Still don't know how it sounds though, won't have the car finished until friday. My brother has the Banks system on his Z and it does sound nice. IMHO Flows don't sound that great unless you are running an outrageous cam. They tend to make everything sound the same. I've been playing the "name the motor by the sound of the exhaust" game with my brothers for years. A Jeep went by me the other day and I thought to myself (before I got a look at it) "Now that's a small block chevy," when to my amazement some frat boy wearing khakis and his hat turned around backwards passes me in a new Jeep Wrangler. The same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago when a full size Bronco drove by my parking lot. SOmething has got to be wrong when a muffler can make any V8, or V6 for that matter, sound the same. Sorry Flow guys, that's just my opinion.
Later,
Harry
BTW- I've heard that aluminized steel is about the equivalent of spraying your exhaust with Silver High-Temp paint before you put it on your car.

I can't believe that Dynomax wasn't on the list. I had one on my other Z28 and I loved it WAY more than the Flowmaster system I have on my current Z28. I'm gonna swap them out first chance I get.

Well, the good news is the Hooker 2055 headers and Hooker cat-back sound AWESOME!!! The bad news is, while replacing my valve cover gaskets I did one of the most frustrating things that 3rd gen owners can experience... ruptured the heater core!
Pardon me while I go punch something.

Post a good sound clip then!!
Man, I sure wish I could, but I don't have the stuff to do it. If you wanna hear a sound clip, Evil has one, do a search, it's easy to find. If I find one, I'll post it below later. -89IRO

Oh yeah, be REALLY careful around your fan switch. While removing the stock manifolds I broke the plastic housing around the connector.
Pics during the install...

I am installing the borla cat back as part of my lt1 conversion and I must say I like the look alot, at least with no gfx..
the fit and finish was much better than my old slp catback, however the price is not for everyone.. part of that is the guarantee..part of it the name..part of it quality..
Looking at all the opinions I would say find the cheapest stainless system that has tips you like, all sound good and all sound even better with headers..
have fun!

Yeah, I don't know what's up with the link. It says Evil is banned so I don't know where to find him. And I don't know of anyone else here with spintech sound clips. If you wanna hear some (not on a 3rd gen), they've got them on their website I think.

HAHA, HITHERE GET IT NOW... Look at your calenders! aeepreelphooollss!
With all the HITHEREs and the "Non Tech Board" that you can't post on, hehe! HITHERE can't believe HITHERE didn't catch on earlier! Last year we invaded some poor unsuspecting environmentalist message board. HITHERE'm sure they LOVED that. Never went back to see how pissed they got. HITHERE hope Dirk turns this crap off at midnight. It was good, but it's starting to get on my nerves. HITHERE can't believe HITHERE didn't get this earlier. HITHERE'm so dense.
