SLP Headers

Is it necessary to coat the SLPs being that they are stainless steel? The reason I ask, is that after buying the headers, I won't have the money to coat them. I have the money to buy the SLPs from the GP and leave them uncoated, or Edelbrocks and coat them. Which is the best way to go? Also, I'm thinking of getting the 1 3/4, but my car is mostly stock. Should that make it a 1 5/8 application? Lastly, how much HP and TQ am I gaining in adding the headers to what's listed in my sig? Thanks.

My car only uses Mobil 1 transmission fluid, oil, and differential fluid.

get the 1-3/4 if you can. "need" is a relative term. They won't rust, so you'd only "need" to coat them to keep up show apearances, to keep the exaust extra hot to help expell them quicky, to maybe keep the underhood temps down a bit.

Definitely get the SLP headers. You dont have to coat them because they are stainless steel.
You should see a 15-25 HP gain at the rear wheels after installing them.

Kevin, do you agree that I should get the 1 3/4?

I know I agree, the general rule is that you get 1 3/4" headers with a 350.

i put a set of 1 3/4 slp's on a buddies gta, and the power gain was awesome, but they weren't coated, and his underhood temps sky rocketed. the plastic was melting on sensors, we had to be extremely careful of all of the wiring- this can't be good. it makes me weary of putting uncoated headers on my camaro.

Yes, SLP 1 3/4" headers on an L98 350 or larger engine. I have no problems with mine being uncoated and underhood temps.

If your car is running lean or if you have too much timing, it will run hotter.
