Question on AIR [smog] pump removal
Question on AIR [smog] pump removal
Just clarification more, I think...
Sorry...I went thru the archives and still had a few questions.
If I remove the pump off the block [this is for an LO5]is there anything that has to be blocked off there, or is it just a matter of bolt holes?
And, after I remove the AIR tubes, I cap the holes in the exhaust manifold with 1/4" brass inserts? I saw a post in the archives...these are threaded fittings?
To the best of my knowledge, this shouldn't produce any codes, right?
Anything else I should be aware of?
BTW, no inspections or sniffer tests here...
Thanks in advance...

Yes you will not get error codes... I removed the pump and still have the pully on.. Im waiting for the new belt...
It's just the same as plugging up the AIR tubes... I just kept the big AIR part where it separates and blocked it until lI get the headers without AIR on.
This question has been seen a lot lately and I think That is why noone is repling...
Check the TBI board and you will see a the topic "Can you name these, pics inside" It shows the pump...
the smog pump/AIR removes the hydrocarbons by pumping rick oxygen AIR into the exhaust manifolds...
NO HP gains and you may loose emssions just a bit.. no real differnce...cleans up a bit... too
check my ride in sig to see a pic of the pump...
DID this help you at all????

I took mine off. It's really easy if you have the right tools. Make shure you have all of the right tools first. You'll need a new fan belt. They cost about $30 (rip off). This is an easy mod and I do recommend it. You'll gain about 3HP and take off about 10lbs.
