What is this exhaust?

I was looking at a 97 z28 (supercharged) and I looked under it to see what it had for a muffler and it looked like 2long tubes (about the size of the stock muffler) sitting sideways but the "tubes" look like some1 drove a car over them they were all crushed. What is that all about?

Those are chambered tube mufflers. They are 60's style.

At one time the company that made them was called Braxxton. I think they had a change of hands or something, but anyway the systems sounds great believe or not.

No, they do not sound bad.

I remmeber reading an article about a Chevy dealer named Berger that was famous for modifying the Camaro's they got in and selling them.

They made a 30th anniversary "Berger SS" and used this chambered style exhasut, with two of them sitting side by side transversly mounted where the stock muffler would be. If I remember the quote correctly, the article said "the 60's style chambered exhaust was used becuase it producded the best sound, by far."

They sound very good. My friend has them on his 74 Vette (http://go.to/zz4vette) and it sounds great. However, they are extremely loud. They ARE designed to muffle the sound, but I don't see how they do it considering you can see straight through them (open pipe just slightly crimped for about 3''s). They do sound very good... lots of muscle cars from the 60's used them, i.e. 69 Z28/SS.
