how do you put the chrome tips with screws in the back on?

how do you put the chrome tips with screws in the back on?
i just got a set of chrome exhaust tips for my car that have screws in teh back, i wasnt sure how to put them on so i just put them where i wanted them and i just screwd the screws in so they are like clamped into place but the screws arent very good and one of them ended up stripping the hole that you screw it into. i wasnt sure hwo to put them on so i figured instead of messing it up i would as you guys. what do you think?

drill a hole into your exhaust pipe....then screw it into that.
