Question on my new "universal" cat and the cat back system

My new universal Dynomax cat doesn't have a flange on the back to bolt to my cat back system, which means it also doesn't have the bolts for the mount that goes there. Now my new cat back system is a Flowmaster American Thunder series and the flange that connects to the cat is removeable. Can I just slip the pipe over the end of the cat and clamp it if it reaches? I mean I don't see why not. I can do without the cat mount right?
