EGR and air injection
EGR and air injection
I am about to change out my exhaust --headers, new cats, custom true dual setup. How important is the EGR as far as performance, drivability, and what will the computer do if I take it off?
The cats are car sound, they come with capped air tubes so that you have the option of using them. I have heard that cats don't last as long if you remove the air injection, is this true? Is there any benefit to be gained by removing the air injection?

Your computer will give you a fault if you remove the EGR, unless you get or make a custom chip. I couldn't tell you if removing it gives you a performance increase.
Removing the AIR system will get less air to the cat, which may accelerate plugging especially if you are running rich. Most people who remove one usually remove both. Don't do it if you live in an emissions testing state or county.

I removed my EGR for awhile and never received any codes. Same for the entire AIR system.
