headers?

headers?

i just finished up installing a new motor in my 85 z28. i went with a 1980 305 i had laying around with some mods. my question is what kind of headers will directly fit. i am useing the stock y pipe from the 85 so im looking for headers that will bolt up. also what year headers should i look for 1980 or 1985 or are the blocks the same

Does it have the oil dipstick on the driver's side or passenger side? They switched in 79-81 sometime, I forget exactly. If you have a driver's side oil dipstick you might have problems, as thirdgens are all passenger side. Otherwise, any header made for 82-92 F-Bodies will fit.

it has the oil dipstick on the pass. side.
so basically any 1982 to 1992 headers will directly fit on the 1980 block ok thanks.

They won't fit the block, since they bolt onto the heads.

You asked in your original question what headers will bolt to the stock y-pipe. The answer to that is "none".

You should get headers for '86-later TPI with y-pipe for a single 3" cat, then get the exhaust from cat on back to match. If you try '85, it will be smaller (and may not be offered). Certainly avoid anything "made" for an LG4.
