how about this dual setup?

What do you all think about this: headers to hi-flow cats (opposite sides of car, under front floor pans) to straight pipes that either exit out the sides, in front of the rear tires, or go straight back with turn downs before the rear axle.

I have a couple 2 1/2" Borla XR-1 Oval Sportsmans that I really want to use, but I don't know where I can put them and still have adequate ground clearance.

Tas is right. There was another guy who just had custom 2.5" pipes welded to two cats that just exited the rear, it looked sweet...

I've seen the pictures at your site. How do I get pipes over the rear axle? Two pipes in the stock location? This will be much harder to do because getting it done by an exhaust shop is not an option--I want to do it, I don't have money right now, I want to drive my car again soon so I want to put the exhaust on very soon.

I'll take a look at it again, and it would sure be nice if I could get pipes over the rear axle.

I've seen the picture of the car with the modified panhard brace, but when I asked competition engineering, they said they don't make that part.

Is there another way that I am not considering? Is is not actually that hard to go over the rear in the stock location?

Thanks

What's with you guys in Texas about making your own exhaust? My buddy got stationed in Ft. Hood and a month later he chopped the exhaust on his s10 and is now ****ing around with flexpipe! From what he tells me, EVERYONE down there has dual exhaust on their vehicles. Anyway, to help you out with what you're doing, my friends brother did the following to his 82 z28... He got the summit long headers (the ones that DON'T have the vertical exit on the driver side). He connected a couple feet of stainless flexpipe to them, and then to a pair of glasspacks that kind of hugged the driveshaft on both sides. Oh yeah, he also put turndown tips on them, and fumes weren't a problem. The whole job costed him about $200, and the car really did sound mean, and wasn't obnoxious. It'll never pass inspection though. Good luck- Randy

Well, I don't think I'm going to do it with flex pipe . I have some 180* mandrel bends I got from summit that I am going to cut to get the bends I need. I'll weld it all together.

Ever considered the collector insert mufflers sold by Car Chemistry? They go inside the header collector. Summit & Jeg's stock them. They are street legal. I am running them for ground clearence concerns.
