Remove cat, gut cat, or replace w/ resonator???
I've been thinking about this alot lately since I will be putting on my flowmaster catback soon. I'm considering 1)Removing the cat and replacing it with straight pipe 2)Gutting the cat or gutting the cat and running pipe through it or 3)Replacing it with a resonator from SLP like this one http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...&SHOWEMAIL=Off would it fit in the same location as the stock cat? I think it's got a 4 inch diameter so I'm not sure. Do you think it would make it sound better or make it sound weird??? Any opinions, comments, or suggestions???
i would either put in a straight pipe if u don't have to deal with emissions, and aren't worried about a cop looking under your car ($10,000 fine i think). or gut the cat and TRY to run a pipe in it, i know some cats (don't know about factory) are actualy oval shaped, so i don't know if a pipe would fit in side, but i think catco cats are actualy round, so might wanna find a used one of those. and i wouldn't put on a SLP resonator cause thats an extra $125. if ur gonna put one of those on then leave off the muffler, which would again waste money unless u custom did ur exhaust.

The cat is oval, but the openings are round I think. Let's say that cost isn't an issue, would the resonator still be lower on your list? Do you think it would make it sound messed up or weird? I have heard the SLP Loudmouth, and that gave me the idea of putting the resonator on there in place of the cat.

Just thought of another question, would I get any warning lights or anything if I gutted or took off a cat? Also, is this the right cat for an '87 Z28
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...t=18461&page=1 Are there any cheaper ones or what? I'm thinking I'll buy this new one, then I can experiment with the old one...

if u don't have to have a cat, and u have a muffler, then what you want is just a plain peice of pipe in its place, if u dont have a muffler then you need a resonator, no need in having both. however i can't recomend a good resonator as of yet.
