I have one on my 87 T/A, and I love the way it sounds, they do cost big $$, but my car is a show car and I was looking for something that would look good under the car. If you do buy one and install it, make sure you start at the rear of the car first. If you start at the front, you never get the tips to line up, some people have had a real hard time geting the tips to line up, If you dont care about the show look, I have herd that Hooker sounds good and cost less, but over all I like the system, the way it looks and sounds.

I have the rear section kit on my 91' 5.7L I like mine.It sounds little raspy, almost like the General Lee off the Dukes of Hazzard. However I do have my cats gutted. That might make it sound alittle loud.

yeah i was thinking about getting it for my 89' so.... just wondering how it sounds. i really want it to look good so i guess borla would be a good compliment to the SLP headers. thanks alot guys. thanks cort351w. it took some time to get them under the carport but was worth it.

I just got my Borla cat-back Fri. and will put it on this week. John, thanks for the install tip. My system (14888) didn't come with the intercooled tips. I was suprised and a little disappointed. Is this right? Anyway good luck. Later Chris
I had borla on mine and scrapped it for a 2 chamber flowmaster. borla didn't sound nearly as nice (rather raspy at points) and it wasn't worth the money in my opinion from any standpoint; i actually gained better flow with the flowmaster than i had with the borla on the dyno and it sounds nicer (i use mine for show too, just cleaned it up a bit.) the extra money i saved made it real easy to buy a few supplies to make it look more appealing and still have cash to burn.
borla is like many things in life, it isn't that it's a bad product; but the people who say it's good usually go by the fact that they haven't tried other products and don't want to look bad paying too much for something!
personally, your exhaust can make or break your car; if you know of someone who has a setup that works and you think sounds good i would go with that. but that's just my .02

back in high school my friend got the adjustable system right when it came out. He had the only v8 4thgen until we graduated. It was a work of art. I've been hearing that they are cutting corners at Borla like mad and the fit and finish have really suffered.

hmm..........some people like and some don't. that's just the thing i haven't heard it. no one around here has borla just flowmaster. i was thinking about going with flowmaster but i wanted to try something different. someone in here mentioned that they were cutting corners.... hmmm i don't like sh*tty workmanship especially since it costs so much. i'd expect a quality product that much money.

I have the borla cat back with hooker ceramic coated headers my 87 iroc 5.7 sounds like a dream. I got the system before the headers and the car did not sound so goo(kind of like a wanna-be supped up V6) but after I put the headers on I was turning heads all over the place. One thing I do not like so much is the fit, the finish is great but they do not fit very well. I am working right now with Borla to resolve the problem.

it seems that many people in here have problems with the fitting of the system but love the way it looks. as for the sound some people like as others do not. i might have to reconsider buying the borla exhaust.....
I was just reading the description on Summit's site. The first page says something about the intercooled tips.
The second page says that it has four angle-cut tips.
Does anyone else have this system, and what tips do you have?

Wow, that kinda sucks about the tips.
I was thinking to get the Flowmaster system, but then I'd have to spend $80-100 (plus welding) to get some nice looking, large stainless or chrome tips.
That being said, since I thought Borla came with those very cool-looking tips, I figured it would come out to a pretty good deal.
Since the folks at Borla apparently don't think I'm deserving of nice exhaust tips, I don't think they'll have my business.

i had thought that the system came with angle cut round intercooled tips? so it comes with plain tips not the intercooled type? that suxs. the intercooled ones look cool. i would have thought for that amount of money they would have thrown them in the kit.

lol.. Just kidding man. I have them too, I just had to point out that little slip.

What did you do with the Borla? Sell it or return it?
Yesterday, I talked to a guy on the phone at Borla.
The system comes with four polished stainless, angle-cut, non-intercooled tips. He said that they had to include a lot of different adapters in the kit so it would fit all cars from 82-92, which increased the cost. He said they used the less-expensive tips to keep the cost reasonable, especially for someone who owns a ten-year-old car.
It seems to me like the only reason they'd want to make one kit for all cars it to benefit themselves, not the customer. I'd prefer it if I could buy it with only the adapter I need for my car.
I asked the guy on the phone if the intercooled tips were available separately, and he said yes. He figured that you could install it on the driver's side without much trouble, but for the passenger side, you'd first have to cut off the existing angle-cut tip. Also, the thirdgen exhaust uses 3" outlets, while the intercooled tips are only available in a smaller size, making things even more difficult if not impossible.
I did receive an email from a guy at Borla named Chris M. He gave me a phone number, and said the people at the number should have what I want. I'll give it a call and let you guys know.
I thought the Borla system would be a pretty good value, if it came with nice-looking tips. I might have to go with something else instead.

Here is a clip of what SLP 1 5/8" headers and a Borla catback sounds like at idle.
