Need sugg with y-pipe for hookers

Well I'm pressed for cash (aren't we all) and I'm trying to scheme up an exhaust plan. I am planning on buying the Hooker Comps (520-2460 @ jegs) for $150 and having them double Cermachromed locally for $175. Grand total being $325. Now I'm stuck w/ the y-pipe problem. I know they don't sell "Hooker Comp Y-pipes". I was wondering if in the meantime (that is before I can afford a custom job) if I can just bolt on reducers (3" to 2.5") and weld them to the stock "y-pipe". It won't flow like it would w/ a 3in pipe, but hey, what can you do?

Will this get me on the road at least?

That might be a feasable solution if the 2460s exit at the same angle and position as the stock y-pipe. My bet is that they don't. Five7kid might know. Give him a PM. There was also a thread a while back where we were discussing the possibility of adapting the 2055 y-pipe to work with the 2460s. Don't know if anyone worked that one up though. I'm sure you could find it in a search.

P.S. consider this: Most of the time it's MUCH easier to wait until you have all of the money, parts, time, etc. before doing something like this... it saves a lot of frustration down the road. Do you really want to spend all that time and money trying to make the stock y-pipe work if you'll be able to afford a REAL 3" y-pipe in a month or two???

The Comps come with the reducers. Most likely, the reducers will not line up with the y-pipe, like RS says, so the down-pipes will have to be cut, and new pipe bent/welded to connect the reducers to the y-pipe.

Unless you have cutting, welding, and bending equipment available, and pipe stock, this probably isn't something you can do at home.

But, I could be wrong...

No you are right five7. I don't have the tools to do it, but I do know a great welder who owns a muffler shop.

I did some searching and didn't really find anything conclusive about adpating the 2055 y-pipe [1MEAN], so I prob won't even try it.

This is a tough decision. The real question is, do I want to avoid the frustration of puttng it together piece-by-piece via laying down an extra $100-$150, or should I do a little leg-work, be patient, and get it done for less cash.

You make a point 1MEAN about frustrations down the road. That is a concern.

Here's my crossroad:

1). I found a place that will coat the headers (cermakrome) for $100/pair. And five7 you say that the comps come with reducers. So, if I buy the "y" collector ($40), the headers ($145), the coating ($100), that puts me in the ballpark of $285 (+
shipping etc.). Then I'd be left with the price it would take to run the down pipes to the y-collector. No clue what that would cost (maybe $75). Grand total $360 +/-.

2.) Or, I could bite the bullet, get the Hooker Supercomps + coating, do the install myself, and be in the ballpark of $460.

So basically, #2 is more convenient, is a better exhaust setup, but is prob going to be $100 more expensive. But, its starting to seem that it would be an extar $100 well-spent. Or hey, maybe that $100 could go toward other car stuff.

Any feedback guys?
