Fire safety w/ headers
Fire safety w/ headers
This happened to me with SLP 1 3/4, but I assume others would be the same situation.
I droped in my new headers while I had my heads off. Of course installing heads is a messy business and I dropped oil, antifreeze, old gasket, all sorts of stuff on the headers, just thought it would burn right off. Well, once I got the car started that stuff did burn off, along with the factory coating (cough cough) what I didn't realize was that a bunch of that crap gathered on top of the collecter in between the 4 primaries and burst into flames!!! Luckily I got the car shut down and the fire out without any damage. So fair warning to everyone, if you are working on the car be careful what falls down onto the headers.

I installed a fire-extinguisher and bracket in my car about three weeks before I installed the headers. I was just looking ahead. On the other hand, my headers didn't smoke or anything when I first fired up the motor after installing them. Jet-Hot is awesome stuff.
You might want to think about the fire-extinguisher. It's just added peace of mind, and if you ever had an engine fire you'd have a good chance of stopping it before it caused too much damage (like to wires, big PITA to repair, replace, or diagnose.)
