headers?
headers?
I am putting Hooker Competition headers on my 87 iroc, and put flowtech purple horny glasspacks coming off each header. Is this a good setup or will it burn the valvles up.

Welcome. Good to see a new "face".
Are you talking about the $141, p/n 2460, Hooker Competition headers?
These are shorty style, headers w/collector adapter only, no pipes, point straight down. You'll have to get pipes made up to point them back. They do have the O2 sensor bung, though.
Burn valves? Nah, see post down the page somewhere about open headers that addressed that very question.
Shadetree? Yeah. Sound good? Matter of opinion - loud and obnoxious, maybe. Good setup? You'll probably get burned by a guy with a decent y-pipe/cat/catback system who doesn't have to worry about ground clearance, either.

Nobody, including Hooker, makes a y-pipe that will bolt directly to those headers. That means a custom fabricated part, which typically means a fair sum of money (unless you know somebody who works for next to nothing).
You might consider the p/n 2055's instead. They are a little different design but smog legal (if that's an issue), and come with a very nice y-pipe. They are more than twice as much, but typically less than the cost of the 2460's and a custom y-pipe combined. And, you can install them yourself.

If you decide to have a y-pipe made be sure to check around on the price. Try the small muffler shops. I saw a receipt from a neighbor that had new pipe run from the manifolds to the cat at Midas for $485. I still can't believe that happened.
