the cat

Is it illegally to take off a cat? I want to get a free flow cat from like catco but I heard that it is illegal to take the cat off a car. My car passed the smog check perfectly here in CA. Does that cat have to be damaged or something to be replaced?

I didn't think you could do much of anything on a car in CA without it be illegal. It is illegal in MD for a shop to take your cat off, but I'm not sure about whether the owner could. Just replace the cat with a hi-flo one and you won't notice a difference than with straight pipe.

im pretty sure anywhere you go, it is technically illegal to remove the cat, unless your stock one broke and you needed to replace it. I heard that if convicted, it could be a $10,000 fine and considered a federal offense - but then again how many people have u heard of getting busted w/ no cat

So if the cat is bad are shops legally able to put a new cat in? Like for some unforseen act where holes might be put in the cat would they be able to replace it with a high flow cat?
