well i'm getting the dreaded code 32 now. i reset the computer hoping it was just an intermittent but the light keeps coming on after a few minutes of driving on the highway. i semi-gutted my cats and installed headers about 2 months ago IIRC but just now the light starts to turn on. what i wanna know is for those with this problem. did you guys get the SES light turning on right after gutting/removing cats or did the problem start sometime later like mine? im thinkin if it were exhaust mod related, it wouldn't take that long for the SES light to come on. i did a visual check but everything seems fine.
wanna get some input before i start diagnosing or pulling out the plenum to clean the EGR passages.

ctandc knows what he's talking about.
Clean it as well as the port going to it.
As you'll read, I got the same code and not knowing any better, I just replaced mine. While I was in there I did a "once over" on the port to clean it up.
Even after I changed it I still got an occasional code 32.

yeah i know i definitely need to try and clean it. problem is i had my plenum off yesterday but the damn EGR bolts would not turn. i really dont think this is a backpressure problem. my cats are not gutted out completely. now i have two questions though:
1. does anything besides the valve itself need to come out to clean passages properly?
2. testing my EGR solenoid, it would not hold vacuum on the TB side with the ALDL grounded or not grounded. does this mean it's bad?

I dunno about the cleaning out the port for the EGR for this. Mine has set this code intermittently since the 3" exhaust was installed 5 years ago. Now I just finished a re-build on the engine (the port is as clean as you can get it) and I added the headers. Still getting code 32. I think the the computer is going to set it based on the lack of back-pressure and on mine it happens soon after I get on the throttle.... driving 30 down the city streets never sets it. But a WOT once or twice will almost always set it. I sure would like a work-around for this. Anyway to by-pass or fool the input to the computer from this circuit?

some egr valves only hold vacuum if there is backpressure present. but why not plug the vacuum line with a bb and hook it back up and clear your code and if that works leave it alone and it will pass a visual emission check might not the sniffer though
well after checkin some flowcharts on diagnosing the code i went ahead and ordered a new EGR solenoid. i installed it yesterday, cleared the codes and with twice drivin on the highway today for 20 minutes, code hasn't set yet. before i would clear the code and as soon as i got on the highway the SES light came on. i'm pretty sure the old solenod was lettin vaccum thru at all times, not just when cruising.
this problem started several weeks after installing headers and gutting part of my cats, so i didn't think it was exhaust related. i'm gonna go with hi-flow cats next time so there isn't a chance the light comes back on.
