X pipe

Hey, its me the dumb 17 year old. I just registered my car at my grandmother's in Southern Indiana, so I don't have to pass emmisions. I recently saw a universal x-pipe in my Jeg's catalog and was wondering how can i hook this up? I have the y-pipe which goes to a flowmaster delta series muffler and 3" tips out the back. I would like to keep the muffler because i'm cheap. Any tips would be helpful. The muffler is a single entry and dual exit.

Hey there. I don't think you should waste time fiddlin' with it since you only have one pipe running out of your cat anyway. A X-pipe is really only beneficial to a dual exhaust system, which you don't have. Plus we don't really have the clearance under there for it. If you really want one, you'll have to run true duals

hey...even if you run TRUE DUAL... which would be hard as hell (i've seen it done if you're really determined) .. you would have LESS than 2 " clearance... the x-pipe would have to cross almost DIRECTLY under the rear of the tranny.. plus you would have to have it hang even lower... because the suspension will move the tranny/driveshaft some...
find a 3" cat-back and a decent pair of headers... that'll get you that low chevy sound... Plus..an x-pipe will sort of make your car sound like a ... well... those other cars that we don't like that use X or H pipes... (5.0's)

I agree that he is probably going to want to just stick with his catback, but just cause you have duals doesnt mean you are only going to have 2" clearance. I hae dual 2.5" mufflers and have about 4.5" at my lowest point.

How big is your muffler. I think your best bet would be a full 3" catback.

its been done w/o cleanse problems cause you can get a proper tranny crossmember to run duals with an xpipe.
Heres a link to check out there true duals w/ xpipe under products section:

I have the 3" x-pipe kit behind hedmen longtubes with 3"in/out dynomax bullets on my car. I have at least 5" clearance everywhere. Her's a link to some pics. The welds look like junk cause it's my first time with a welder. The exhaust sounds great. It's ignorantly loud.

Yes, I can see them, and the link is working now. What is up with that front part of the exhaust. It looks smaller and like it might not be made as well.

Well, being the dumbass that I am I did not forgot my old s-bends around the crossmember were 2.5" when I ordered the 3" x-pipe kit. I just crushed the 3" pipes a bit to snug around the 2.5" pipes and filled the rest in with the welder. The other junk is muffler mend which is coming off after I drive the car to a buddy o mine's house who kicks *** with a welder so he can fix all the damn leaks I left

Well, they say that your exhaust is only as good as your most restrictive part so I dont know how much good the 3" will do unless you get the front replaced with 3".

- agreed

- SmokinZ28 - Is that the Hedman universal x? Would the pipes that came with it have been long enough for it to x at the tailshaft of the trans w/o the s extensions? I've got custom subframes, and a custom crossmember, so I can run LT's and duals w/ no clearnace issues.

thanks, justin...

You won't be able to get out & around the frame & trans without some kind of S-bend.

I'm good as long as the headers exit wide enough to clear the trans. I've got wicked home-built subframes(actually more of an "in-floor frame") so I can cut rid of the factory subframe from about the firewall back if need be. I'm waiting to put the motor back in an start mocking up the exhuast before I start hacking though, so I will only remove what is needed. As for the trans crossmember, I've got to build a custom one to tie from frame rail to frame rail, so I'll just clearnace it for the exhaust.

later, justin...
