Flowmaster 80 just too LOUD!!

When i'm driving ...i set off car alarms..etc.. i cant hear my stereo...my ears ring......THIS THING IS LOUD...

I have a 350 headers... 3 inch exhaust.....lots of cam....

now..i love hearing these old...70's cars going by me on the road... they have a nice deep......sound....nice and muffled.....flowmasters are just raw....redirecting....

what muffler would give me a nice muffled....quite sound.. without sounding too cheap...

no more flowmasters for me...

Rob

I love the way my 80 series sounds...with the 3 inch "I" pipe...and both cats removed....getting my headers installed in about 2 weeks. If I were you....Iwould check into a Borla muffler. My friend has the Borla muffler on his 91 1LE 5.7...it's not as loud as a Flowmaster...but has a good soild tone to it.

Hookers sound pretty good and they're a bit quiter than the Flowmaster 80. They do get loud at WOT though...

Huh, thats funny. I was under the impression that the 80 series Flowmasters were the quietest. Oh well.

Another vote for the Magnaflow. Quiet at idle, you can hear the stereo when you're on the freeway going 70, and LOUD at WOT.

dynomax is great too, very similar to the magnaflow.

Hooker - I'm gonna run 2 Aero chambers w/ my new dual set-up. I wasn't very happy w/ my Flowmaster either.

i know you said no more flowmaster, but i just wanted to let you know they make quieter mufflers. my flowmaster 30 series is plenty quiet with my setup and no cat. i can hear my cd player just fine at most any volume. my ears definitely dont ring. conversations can be carried on with a normal voice easily. the 30 series is supposed to be the second quietest muffler flowmaster makes, 70 series being the quietest (stock replacement muffler for RVs to get better gas mileage). eh, i guess you could use the 70 series on other stuff, but i bet its too quiet. dynomax mufflers are supposed to be pretty quiet, and so are edelbrock mufflers.

I have edelbrock headers, gutted cat, 3 inch I-pipe, and a flow 80 and i can't stand how quite my car is, driveing anywhere under 1500rpm and u can;t hear it. I mean yea its not a stock sound it is loud but nothing compared to mustangs and what not. I just wish there was a way to make these things louder. stupid junk single exhaust. and not to mention i have ahealthy cam and around 350 ponies

SPINTECH!!!!!!!!!!! I've got the 343SC (Crossflow) on my '89 350 IROC. At idle, it's not too loud, just deep and rumbly. The only times it is loud is when you get on it in first or second gear. When I hit 1500 rpm, it gets a little loud, but then she shifts, and that takes care of the loudness if that's what you want to avoid. Everyone at school comments about how good it sounds, most of them have to ask twice because I am like the only person at my school that doesn't have a flowcrapper and they think it just sounds real rumbly and clean. -89IRO

?????

Anyway, I have the 80 series muffler and I don't think it's that loud at all. It's very quiet at idle, and just loud enough at WOT to satisfy me for my daily driver. It's WAY quieter than my 81 (check my sig).

I have no idea who made my exhaust system. It's a 3" catback and I set off alarms all the time. It's great..........

Everybody just needs to remember that the muffler on his setup will sound different then everybody else's setup. More things affect sound then just the muffler. I don't suggest a straight-through type muffler if your into keeping things quiet. A different series flowmaster or something might do the trick.

I LOVE setting off alarms when I roll by... HAVE YOU GUYS EVER tried starting your car in a parking garage, with a little bit of rev (you know... to make sure it doesn't die or anything)
HOWEVER, like our friend... I'm in a catch 22 with my flowmaster 80 series.. (headers/ no cat/ 3" cat back)... I would like something a TINY bit quieter, expecially because I go to work at 5:30 AM.... BUT being from HOUSTON TX ( r1cer capitol of the midwest, unfortunately ),, I NEED the loudness... when the stupid r1cers pull up to me and start revving... I hold the pedal UNTIL 4500-5500... and that NICE LOUD AZZ GROWL usually scares then from wanting to race me (when I'm not in the mood, with my parents... or whatever).. plus... you WANT some people to hear your car...
WHAT MUFFLERS GET LOUD AT ABOUT 3000-3500 RPM's THANKS GUYS

Aerochambers are fairly quiet at idle, but they get loud about 2500 rpm and they scream at 5000+ rpm.
