too hot in engine bay

i have a pair of edelbrock headers on the car and i was wondering if they made a good insulator or heat shield to put around them to protect the starter from heating up. i heard that header wrap is crap and it only lasts 400 miles or so and causes premature rust and all that good stuff. My problem is... When i start the car up and its been sitting it fires up fine, but when its been running and hot it wont start, it just cranks over and eventually cranks slower and slower until i see and smell a little smoke coming from it. My guess is its overheating because it smells, smokes and the headers practically wrap around the starter. i just didnt know if there was a tin shield or somethin better then header wrap. Thanks alot to any replies.

If you don't want to spend the money on coating them right now, I think the heat shield should still be available. Try Summit or Jeg's.
