Banging inside cat....

My catalytic converter recently started getting a loud banging noise inside. I would like to know if it would cause my exhaust to get a lot quieter, or has something messed up my muffler as well?I'm going to replace the cat, but i dont feel like getting a new muffler right now.

Sounds like your cat is trashed, disconect the Y-pipe and exhaust and look in the cat. and see if it is all broken up inside.

I'd say replace the cat and see how it goes. If you think your cat got into the muffler, I'd try to take the muffler off and shake the pieces out. If you're a little lucky, with the design of the Flowmaster, I don't think it will be clogged too badly.
Good Luck.
