found my exhaust leak! help

i found my exhaust leak and that annoying ticking noise where its coming from...Its where the exhaust mainfold meets the exhaust pipe. Is there a gasket of some sort that u can put in there? between the pipes that connect with the flanges? Because other than that i cant find a way to seal it

There should be a gasket there now. If not, I would put one there.

You should be able to go to any parts store and tell them the location of the leak. I'm not sure if that is one of the donut gaskets or not.

it is the donut gasket...i think, because it sticks right in between the flanges...autozone told me that the car doesnt need one...but how the heck else would i seal the leak? i tried the best i could to stick those pipes as close and as tight as i could, but no luck...i'll just pick up that gasket.

Don't ever take the advice of autozone or any other auto parts store for that matter. They have no clue what the hell they are talking about!

Is your leak on the passenger side? I had this experience on a SBC in the past. Mine was where the heat riser valve mated with the manifold itself - the valve is a separate casting. After disassembling it, I sanded both surfaces smooth and used Permatex Ultra Copper on it. It never leaked again in the next 2-3 years after which the car got headers.
One more thing, my manifolds had the donut shape cast right into them, so if that's the case with yours, and that's where the leak is, I'd fix that the same way. Hope this helps.
