Straight Pipes

Hey, i was going to put straight pipes on my car. I just wanted to know if it would hurt performance due to loss or back pressure and stuff like that. I like the sound of them but i dont want to hurt performance by this, thanks. My cars a 305 TBI by the way.

you know i had straight pipes for a summer.

i sure do miss all the "YEE-HAW"s I would hear as I drove my camaro. What i'm trying to say is....unless you're sporting a confederate flag on the back hatch and like sounding like a 4x4 hill-billy truck...

please please please don't do it. The sound gets annoying really quick.

don't even bother thinking about driving at night because all the neighbors will know when you're coming home too.

Why even bother with straight pipes? If you get a good muffler its not going to hurt performance.

i like the sound of straight pipes, and i do have edelbrock headers. The sound im trying to achive is the sound of the charger in fast and furious. Yes, i know its just the movies but... it be sweet to be really loud like that. i had an exhaust leak a month back and that even sounded cool on my car...

An engine isn't going to sound great just because you put straight pipes on it. You aren't going to get your car to sound like that Charger just because you put straight pipes on it. Many things affect the sound of the exhaust in the engine such as the cam, heads, etc. And have you driven a car around like that, that is that loud? Its fun for about the first day.....

I agree with everyone else, i ran straight out with no muffler for awhile waiting for some cash for my flowmaster, although the car sounded mean when sitting still revving the engine, driving it wasrather annoying after a mile or so. unless you really like the sound of a tractor, id suggest going with a good muffler, it will never sound like the charger unless you transplant a built big block in place of the 305. if it was a 350 it would sound alot better with straightpipe.

been there, done that... on a stock or mostly stock engine a straight pipe will never sound good imho

I run my Formula 350 with straight pipes(with chrome tips welded on them) for more than 10 years now,it doesn't hurt performance at all,the sound is just great, and on cruising speed I can still listen to my radio!!
So just do it and decide for yourself!!

On a stock tbi your not going to gain much performance because the flow on the other side of the combustion chamber is not up to it.

I've heard sbc's on straigh pipes before.. if you want your car to sound like a Harley, and be equally loud, then go for it.
