i have an 89 305 TPI trans am. a while ago my exhaust broke off at the cat. ever since my car has been stalling out after driving it a while. could the lack of exhaust be the problem?

 

No, unless the lack of backpressure could be causing a problem with your egr valve which can cause your car to stall, but I doubt it. By the way, how loud is that sucker?

 

aren't most EGR vavles open only during cruise?

so idle and WOT it should be closed I would think


did the exhuast break after the cat?

if so you might have broken some of the cat off and it is starting to crumble and clog things up
