If ever I....
.....get this car running right, and decide to put a set of headers on(cheap ones that dont have air connections), would i be able to let the smog tubes "hang"...those metal tubes that go into the original manifolds just hang there and no connect to anything? I would of course disconnect the pump by taking the belt off....but outside of that, is there anything else i NEED to do? I just dont want to have any type of code lights or mechanical problems come about this...money is tight, so I'm looking for the cheapest way to do this...starting with $70 dollar headers
I'm just curious about this....thanks.

Just remove all the AIR stuff, pump, brackets, belt, tubes, hose & plug the tube to the converter.

I dont have emissions up here in PA. I dont know how hard of a job it is to remove all that stuff....if its not too much of a PITA, then i'll do it....if i decide not to remove all that (just in case its too much of a pain or just to be safe in case they bring emissions here) then would it be ok if i just left the tubes open with the belt off the pulley?

Seriously, I'd just pull it all off and throw it in a box if you think you might ever want it again. Taking the AIR tubes off the manifolds would be more of a PITA than removing them WITH the manifolds. My experience from installing headers is that none of it comes off that hard anyway, so if it's not doing anything, why have it on? I would however just leave the tube to the convertor on and plug it as RickTPI said.

If its easier to remove them with the manifolds, then I'll do that then I guess. I'll have to see what is up with the system and what i need to do. Thanks again for the advice.
