Suggestions on catalytic converter's?

I need to replace my cat's (for an 89 gta), and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I think I've heard of high flow ones or somethingother, but I still need to pass emissions. Any help? Thanks if so.

high flows are 50 state legal. I suggest you find high flow cats that are a direct replacement for the 2 you have now. I went with a universal one, and lets say.... not very happy with teh fitting and this and that... fustraiting to say the least... High flow cats flow almost as well as a strait pipe... high flow cats is what you need.

Random Tech cats are by far the best catalytic converters you can buy. Regardless of what people think about you needing them or not they are the very best you can buy. Others are cheaper, but if you want the best and highest flowing cat you can buy random tech is the way to go. Here is a good place you can get them from.

There might have been a study, but if there was it would have shown that the random tech cats flow over 500 cfm compared to the 200-300 something the other ones flow. Random tech metallic series are the highest flowing cats in the world. Like I said, others will and have already said you don't need to spend all that money and blah blah blah. You don't need a lot of things. You don't need a high flow cat to be honest, but if you want the best cat the random tech is the best.

Just like the big "which muffler flows more" argument, for a street driven car, you most likely won't notice a difference. But with a race car with a high HP motor you would notice a difference, but then again, why would you be running a cat. converter on a race car? If you guys all want a good cat. for the price nothing beats Carsound (magnaflow).

I've had a Random Technology Direct Replacement Cat and have replaced it after failing California's emission test with a Car-Sound Cat. I failed with Both cats because my engine did not have enough backpressure for the EGR valve to work properly.

I never noticed any difference in power from either Cat and while talking to the Muffler guy he told me that all Modern Cats use the same honeycomb catalyst blocks which some manufacturers call "High Flow".

While comparing the two cats side by side, I did like the construction of the Car-Sound cat a little better just because of the way the honeycomb block insulating mat is recessed flush inside the stainless steel housing where as the Random Techs insulating mat sticks out in the exhaust flow.

Here's an inside picture of the Random Technology Cats insulating mat. The Car-Sound insulating mat is recessed flush with the body shell.

Hmm, thats odd. My random tech cats look nothing like that inside. You can see right through them too. Very high quality cats in my opinion. Here is a pic of my exact random tech cats.

WTF, umm are you looking at the same pics? They are completely different. BTW, how many times are you gonna get banned before you finally shut up 89IRO or is it 89IROZ?

They both look pretty restrictive, yes, but it looks like they have a different pattern. That's what I meant by they look the same.

As far as cats go, neither pictured are restrictive at all. Pretty much with the one I posted, the only way to get more flow is to not run cats at all.
