Black Coating on Headers? inside too?

Im getting ready to install SLP headers on my car and people are telling me it is still a good idea to coat them even tho they are stainless. Apparently its better for heat insulating. A friend told me that he had his coated at a shop for $150 and they use a black, higher temperature coatin (1200 deg I think he said) whereas the silver ones only go up to, I forget, but less. He also said that they coat them inside as well. I never heard of the blakc higher temp coating, or coating them inside. I guess it makes sense tho. What do you all think?

Sounds like paint to me.

They do normally coat the inside when they use ceramic because they dip it into the ceramic as it's hot. There's really no way to keep it from getting inside.

I'd be cautious about paying $150.00 Go there and look at what they do. Make sure it's an actual coating.

Hmm. OK. I thought they sprayed it on or something. I will check out the paint situation tho. In you experience have you always seen the silver color? The guy that told me about it is a good friend and has had stuff coated there, and hes pretty knowledgable, but I will check it out

Hi, Some info on the coating---The bright polished mettallic ceramic coating is rated for 1300 F continuous and 1500 F intermittently. We are not offering the black coating at this time. We had almost zero demand for it. Everyone wants the polished coating. We coat them inside and out. This cuts down greatly on the heat radiated from the header. Shortys the size of the slps are $130.00 to coat. Anyone can stop by our shop in Humble and take a look at some of our coated headers if they like. Myself--Dave , my partner Mike , or shop foreman Jimmy will be happy to talk to you all. We have sold many sets of coated headers on ebay and have a 100% positive feedback number of 218 User ID same as my email dhamil@texas.net Thanks All, David Hamilton at American Coating Specialties 1329 South Houston Ave., Humble, Texas 77338 Ph 281-446-6203

Thanks Dave
Ive been out of town since I spoke to you and havent done anything on the headers yet. This other guy was telling me some weird stuff I guess, his temperatures were way off. I will bring my headers over tomorrow or Friday and drop them off about midday. How long is normal turnaround?
