Adding a cat or a resonator will help mellow the sound back out.

It's the missing cat.

A 3" Dynomax bullet where the cat used to be will probably put it back to the sound you came to love.

I have the Hooker Cat back with a cat and I thought the car sounded great. After I installed my headers I too thought that the car sounded like poo. It sounded truck like. At idle it was very nice and rumbled the way I liked it, but once I got on the gas I thought it sounded horrible. Mind you this is with the stock cam. A cam swap will deffinately maker her sound better.
