My Catco Is Killing Me!!!

I've got a 85 z28 w/ 305 4bbl. I just recently baught the car. I take the catco off every car a have b/c it robs hp and rumble. I went to take it off of the z28, and there were no bolts on the exhaust- the catco is just welded on there. How can I take my catco off and put a straight pipe through w/o welding?

What exactly are you trying to do. Your post is a little missleading. Are you wanting to remove the cat and replace it with a straight pipe or are you wanting to take the cat off, put a stright pipe through it and then put the cat back on?

Either way your going to need to cut it off and you can use a pipe expander to make the pipe wider than the original and then slide it over the other one. From there you can use exhaust clamps to squeeze the pipes together.

Hope that helps.

Why take it off? Most Catco cats have a straight through pipe in them.....youre only talking about 3hp.....nothing you'll ever notice. Plus, youre car will be alot "cleaner", as long as everything else is in shape on the car.......

Just from the post I think when he says "catco", it sounds like he means the catalatic converter. Not sure though.
