You need 1.5" round.

Would that be the same for 350's as well? And if not, is that size specific to engine type? (ie TPI or TBI)

I would think not until one goes to aftermarket heads.

That is what you need for stock heads for 350 or 305. Some aftermarket heads have a square or D port but most are just round.

The stock ports are not round. They are rectangular.

i had the rectangular gaskets on and they were the wrong ones so i got the ones for sbc 305 with the round holes so they shouldl work.

Which rectangular ones did you get? There are many out there. The exhaust ports are more rectangular than they are circular. Just look at the hooker headers. They match the ports on the head and they are rectangular and include rectangular gaskets with them.

Well they appear to be oval or rectangular with radiused corners but they are clissified as round for header applications.

Let's just say they are a weird shape, lol. Both will work just fine. Here is a pic of the world SR heads, which are basically a replacement head for our cars. No real hp to be gained. They are also accepted in sanctioning bodies of racing as being stock replacement parts. Notice the rectangular shape of the exhaust ports with the radiused corners. Not a true rectangle, but definitely not a circle.
