Side exit exhaust
Side exit exhaust
Hey guys, I haven't posted much of anything here, but I need some help.
I just put in a new 350 HO in my '90 RS with Heddman headers. The problem came when routing the exhaust, it is going into a Flowmaster exhaust system with Y-pipe to singe muffler with dual exits to the rear. But the driver's side exhaust left no room to route, so we just went right under the car to mate up near the muffler.
Needless to say, I need a better exhaust setup. There is no room with my suspension setup to run a true dual exhaust, but i was wondering about side exit exhaust in front of the rear wheels, maybe even protruding from the rocker panel GFX right behind the door a la the Mustang side exit system. Anyone have any info on a similar setup or know if there is room for it?
Is it even possible?

i did it once...it had decent ground clearance and i used the same headers as youwhat was done was this... i used a set of late model mustang-designed side exhaust mufflers, which are your basic case-type muffler with the exception that the in/out are both on the same side(and they are quite small) and they were located about where your feet go... one in the cat hump, and one in the hump i made, with the ins/outs both facing the rear end. then, a fairly large j bend was made for both sides connecting the collectors to the in portion of the muffler and after that, we ran pipes along the subframes and turned them out the sides, added some tips and i am done...
p.s. yes it is possible and i hope this helps you

That sound spretty cool, I will keep that setup in mind. I won't be able to get to my car until Saturday ( I am at school, borrowing another vehicle).
But I was thinking about routing it right from the headers straight to the sides of the car, along the SFC's (complete Spohn suspension setup). Then from there, use inline chambered mufflers(or any other inline muffler) along the sides of the SFC's, then exit out the sides in front of the rear wheels.
Now, the other crazy idea I have, is not to route the tip inder neath the rocker panel GFX, but to go through it.
Like this Mustang next to my car for example (I apolagize if I offend someone by using a Mustang as an example
)

See how the rocker panel GFX is cut out to make room for the custom fit exiting tip? I want to do something similar on mine.

Now, on my car (apolagize for ****ty resolution - scanned photo) where the rocker panel GFX gets higher right after the door, I want to cut out a hole for a square tip, and mount it so it fills it in perfectly. I just don't know if there is enough room to actually make this work, or if it will be too expensive to be feasible. I really need some ground clearance though.

that would work except..... thirdgen rocker gfx do not come down more than an inch past the actual rocker panel... so.... unless u want to cut into your actual sheet metal/jack support, you would be better off trying to extend your gfx around the exhaust... which would prolly make for one h*ll of a clearance issue... when i did my side exhaust, i tried doing the same thing.
p.s. on the mustang, the exhaust would sit lower than the stock gfx if it werent for those side skirts.
