Hedman longtube question
I read a write up about this install, but can't find the thread anymore, I did numerous searches.
Anyway, the question is for the driver side header. I need to notch the frame, and was wondering what can be used for this? What's the best, and what's the most common to be found in a house. I need to get this header in today so I can get the car running. It's my last obstacle.

My LT hedmans rubbed on the crossmember in once place. I just ground off the edge of it until it didn't hit anymore. You could also dent the header in the area that it rubs, or a combo of both depending on how bad it hits. The easiest way to dent a header tube is to lay a piece of pipe across it and hit it with a hammer. put some tape or cloth across it if its coated to keep it from getting scratched.

I tried denting it, but i've dented it as far as i'm comfortable with. There is that spot your talking about on the subframe, but that one isn't a problem. The control arm mount that rubs is a little worse. I cut a grinder and a couple cutoff wheels from the local tool rental place. They said it should work, I'll try it tomorrow. I didn't wanna have to cut the frame, but it's not a big deal. The spot I'm going to cut is non loading.
If anyone has pics or the URL to that hedman install thread that already has pics that would be great. I kinda wanna see how much people are cutting off.

PS I already have new mounts, so that's not an issue

I've never heard of anyone having to remove that much metal to get the headers to clear. If you have swapped engines before or have completly removed the mounts you might want to check something. The metal pieces of the motor mount that bolt to the engine block are different for each side. Be sure you have those pieces on the correct sides, the driver and passenger side mounts are very similar but just different enough to cause problems like that...I made that mistake myself once. Just thought I would throw that out there since I did tjat but luckily I figured it out before I cut a big chunk out of my crossmember. Good Luck.
