Ok, I'm just trying out something I've read a few times...

Can you post up and let me know if you have the 1 - 3/4 or 1 - 5/8 headers, and if you had to dent the header for the steering shaft or not? Thanks.

1 3/4 w/o air, coated, no dent. Just had to replace the driverside motor mount to get clearance between header and steering shaft.

I have the 1 3/4. No denting, no new mounts, nothing needed. Fit just fine. Have had them in and out many times now with no problems.

1 5/8 slp w/kit purchased in 2001 here at TGO during a group purchase. No problem with installation. Y pipe fit. Passenger side went in much easier than the driver side. When I finally an engine swap on the 92RS, I will go with the torq style bolt.

Have both 1-5/8 and 1-3/4 slp headers. Have had no problems with either. When there is a clearance problem. I "think" it maybe a engine mount issue . When installing new mounts make sure you have the left/right side mounts in the right location or it will move the engine over towards the driverside of the car and create a clearance problem with the headers.

Had 1 3/4" SLPs (now have Hooker 2210 LTs). Stock tired mounts, no denting. Had to loosen column bolts and shove it over a bit though. I ended up with at least 1/2" of clearance when it was all said and done.

I've got the 1-3/4", with a mild dent. I'd try to move the steering column if I had it to do over, though...

Oh, and the Y-pipe fits well.

I've got 1 3/4" SLPs without AIR tubes that I got Jet Hot coated. I've also got energy suspension motor mounts and I have plenty of clearance between the steering shaft and the headers. The shaft used to hit the headers because a previous owner of the car had moved the steering column to the left (which scooted the steering shaft to the right) but now that I have the steering column centered where it's supposed to be everything is perfect. The y-pipe also fit great!

i havethe 1-3/4" headers, w/o AIR.

the steering shaft did hit, so i grinded a little of the shaft away to clear it. i couldnt bring myself to dent the header, especially since i paid $220 to get them coated.

everyone gives me crap about grinding the steering shaft, but its been fine for a while. i keep an eye on it for stress cracks, etc.

keep in mind that i have original motor mounts too, so mu engine is a little lower than it probably could be.

I have the SLP 1 3/4 on L98 Alum heads.
and they just touched, so I removed the steering shaft and
machined the shaft down just a little , mainly takeing the corners
off.
Better than denting those Expensive SS SLP Headers.

1 3/4 SLPs and I had to squeeze (in a bench vise) one DS tube to clear the steering shaft, also the DS Y crossover pipe to keep it a bit further away from the oil pan.

I know this may sound stupid but on my car my brake lines are right against the steering shaft between the shaft and the motor. I checked out mdformula350s engine bay pics and his are between the shaft and the body. Is this normal? If I go messing around with the steering shaft do I need to worry about the airbag going off? I have the same headers as md's bought in the same group purchase and a 90 gta.

well i can answer this

i bent the brake lines to the other side to make more room. simple as that.

the 1 5/8 would fit fine on my car, the tri's either side would fit fine.

it seems the 1 3/4 newer ones give some people problems.

no biggie just a dent and i wasnt going to touch the shaft especially after putting heavier and bigger front rims and tires.

On my 1-5/8" SLP headers mixed with Dart Iron Eagle heads (straigt plug hole), there is almost no spark plug clearance at all for #8. On my GM heads there was no issue. I have to use the shorty header plugs from Accel to get 1/8" clearance from the plug boot. With standard length plugs there isn't much room to breathe without the plug wires! I think #5 is pretty close too.

The really funny part is that my y-pipe didn't bolt back up with the new heads, the headers were a good half inch further apart at the 'collector'.

Anyone else have this issue with their header/head combo?

Kerry, on Joey's ramjet car, we had problems with the steering shaft hitting the header. We went as far as to move the steering column a bit in the factory-ovalized mounting holes. This effort was of little help. To fix, simply turn the wheel a couple times Back when I had SLPs, the steering shaft was a good 1/2" away from the tube.

I had just installed the 1 3/4" SLP headers in a few weeks
ago. I used the Prothane poly. motor mounts and I have a
good 1/2" clearance from the steering shaft. I had to do
nothing to the headers to make it fit and clear. Only problem
was to reroute the brake lines so the brake fluid doesn't boil
over on a 1/4 mile pass. Just a precaution. They weren't hitting
the headers, but I don't feel like taking a chance on having
my brakes crap out on me and get injured/killed from my
stupidity!

P.S. I am using a Ramjet 350 crate motor that comes
with GM Vortec heads.
