Do long tubes really make a difference?

I'm getting ready to put the vortec head kit from Scoggin-Dickey in my 92 z28. I'll be going back in with Comp cam CSXR270HR10. I've already got a set of Hooker Shorty's on my car. Will I benefit anything from a set of long tubes? I've just read so much about problems with the installation of them. The Y-pipe is not an issue because I'll be going back with true duals or a simple H-pipe with some turn downs. Any input will be appreciated.

imo, yes its worth it, especially if you want to do duals. and what about problems? i had none installing my hedman longtubes. as for performance longtubes scavenge alot better than shorties and produce higher horsepower numbers

Good info, I just thought it was a pain with long tubes and the starter and oil cooler. What is your hedman long tube part number?

Be warned: Vortec heads have a unique plug angle causing MAJOR interference with plug #7 (worse than those with normal straight plug heads). I beat the crap outta my primary tube AND run a shorty plug. The boot still touches, and I mean TOUCHES, the header. I had to put several layers of heat-shield tape around the boot ...and I bet its still gonna eventually burn through.

Hooker also makes some very nice LT's, but they're about $400.
