3" single exhaust guys step inside!

i am looking at running a single three inch system on my next car. i am looking at two different systems right now. the hooker catback and the flowmaster single in/out system. i am going to run the 2055 hooker headers. i need to know what kinda HP/TQ numbers i can push through these systems without a whole lot of problems. quite honestly, i can't afford the 3.5" or 4" mufflex systems so, that's really not an option. thanks for any help guys, i really need to know. also, please post pics and results of the said systems and headers. thanks again
matt

I'd go with the Flowmaster. Not only will it sound better, (IMO ) it has good flow capabilites too. Most real fast cars I've seen run Flowmaster, contrary to what some people might think. TRAX can tell you, he ran really low 12's with his 3" single outlet (F2) system.

if you go with the flowmaster (I would too) make sure to get the 3" single rather than the crossflow, the crossflow just cant pass gas like the single.

i'm not a huge fan of tips so i didn't really want the single in/dual out. so the fact the single in/out flows better is better for me anyhow. thanks guys. how is the heddman shorties? jegs want the same for coated heddmans as they want for uncoated hookers. i know the y-pipe is the weak link in the system but will it flow enough to run low 12's? the hookers are nice but they are expensive. i had heddman shorties on my old car but they never had exhaust go through them before i bought some LT's. i don't want to run longtubes if i can avoid it cause of the ground clearance issues. i figure if willie can force low 12's high 11's out of his slp headers that have a 2 1/4" collector, then i can do the same with a 3" collector and a 2 1/2" y-pipe. i would eventually like to upgrade to a custom 3" y-pipe. either have someone make it or do it myself (depends on the availability of equipment).

if someone could tell me their experience with heddman shorties (coated preferred...give me details on finish as well) that would be greatly appreciated.

just called jegs, the coated ones are headers only, not y-pipe included. if i am going to pay $450 i am going to have a 3" y-pipe. how fast are you 2055 guys running?

i leave and no one stands up for my Hooker

either one will show minimal differences in performance. Go with what sound you prefer.

I find the Flows have a louder idle, yet the Hooker screams at WOT.

sound clip in sig.

i have a single 3in, with a single out flowmaster. it was bent at a shop however. but i really love the sound, and the single out really looks good IMO, i used to hate the look of the single out, but it really has grown on me. it flows extremly well, I think with my exhaust system right now, with hedman headers, custom y-pipe, and the cat back, i will be able to run low 12's or high 11's.

If you want the highest flowing setup then your best bet is to piece your system together. There are part numbers on this site for Dynomax's intermediate pipe and over the axle pipe. You'll then want to hook that up to a dynomax ultraflo welded muffler (straight through, single 3" in/out muffler). I have run 11.6's (with close to 400 at the rear wheels) with this setup.

I ran 12.2's with the Flowmaster Force II system. DETAILS: Flowmaster Force II single 3" in/out exhaust (PN 17150). To be more specific, the 17150 system comes with a 30-Series muffler with a PN of 53033. 1.3M WMV sound file: http://www.celligent.com/tim/iroc/movies/idle.wmv. It's a good system and it sounds GREAT at idle. However, I wasn't a fan of the flow capabilities of this muffler ... nor was I fan of the drone at lower RPMs while driving.

I ran my 11.6's with a bunch of changes including replacing that flowmaster muffler with a dynomax UltraFlo Welded straight through single 3" in/out muffler. To be more specific, this muffler is PN 17233. As far as I know, I am the first one to try this muffler on an F-Body. 2.84M WMV file: http://www.celligent.com/tim/iroc/mo...nomax_idle.wmv. I e-mailed dynomax before picking this muffler and they said "In regards to the 17233 Ultra Flo welded, this has a Sport sound with a 1500 cfm rate. In a single system it can handle 682 hp"

Hmm I just pulled off my flowmaster setup this weekend, it was the thirdgen fbody type. (2.5-3" in--> [2]2.5 out) and replaced it with a fourth gen borla setup. Looks worlds better, and I like the sound too, altough it is nothing like how the flowmaster setup sounded, and I really liked it too.

If you are doing it on a budget, it's hard to go wrong with the flowmaster setup. It will no be a problem for the power level that the vast majority of thirdgens see.

I just put Single 3" in/out flowmaster 40 series muffler on my car today and i love it!!! it's not as loud as the 80 at idel but man when you lean into the gas it wakes up!!!!!! i used dynomax I and over axle. everything cost me 180 +70 for a 3" tail and install all welded and it sounds mean even on my little 305!
