3" Cat Back on L03 Too Big Diameter?

Will a 3" cat-back be too big for my stock L03 (which is soon to get headers.

The car is a 90 Camaro RS

I seem to recall someone saying it wouldn't provide enough back pressure????

Didn't see any real help but 3" is not to big. Back pressure is bad anyway you look at. Many people get this confused with scavaging. Your LO3, though weak, will like a larger exhaust.

^ Sums it up perfectly. This thread needs no more responses. If you would like some more information on backpressure, you will find all you need by doing a search.

My '88 Trans Am has the LO3 now. i got the 3" Edelbrock cat-back, and it seems to like it just fine! Just be sure to get the right part #. My cat-back was 3" all the way through, and now where it connects to my cat I have a huge exhaust leak, because my cat is smaller than the 3". I'll seen be putting headers, y-pipe, and 3"cat so that'll solve the problem.

if i were you i would go with the 3" I should have but went with 2 3/4". it was the only thing the shop would put on, I should have done it myself. But the 2 3/4" is a, how to say, not much used size and finding parts to bolt to it is tough. everything is made for 3" and you will have no problem in the future. Unless you put 30" pipe(ok slight exaggeration) on I dont think you'll have much problem. And with the headers you can just replace the Y-pipe with a 3 inch one and 3 inch cat and have full 3" exhaust, with no kinks in the system.
