Exhaust Cut-outs
Hey all, I am thinking about buy an exhaust cutout for the RS. But theres one thing im not clear on. Are these strictly for sound, or do they actually boost performance? I have got a $20.00 coupon for summit, and im thinking about buying one. I found one for $26.00. And also where would be the best place to install it?
Thanks!

They help boost performance. You can probably get 5-15 hp and tq depending on your power plant. I would put it infront of the cat but you can put it anywhere. Infront of cat, behind cat(if you do this make sure you get a high flow cat), or before the muffler.

I little tip on these. DON'T get the cable operated one. They rattle and leak badly. I'd suggest a FlowTech Race Ready. I have one on my car (with the McCord Power Plate) and I love it. Mine is behind the cat and it is pretty darned loud when it's open. I haven't really noticed much difference in the performance, but I'm sure there is a little. I don't know if 5-15hp is even in the ball park, unless you have a super restrictive exhaust system, but it sure adds a level of attitude. My car had a pretty free flowing exhaust system in it, I just wanted the thing for fun. FYI, with all of the parts and weld in cost, I'm into mine for about $240. As far as I'm concerned that is a small price to pay for the fun I've had with it.
If emissions aren't a concern, put it where the cat was and have fun. If you need emissions, put it right in fron or behind the cat in the same general place.

The one i found is in a summit racing magazine. Its not cable operated, it just has 3 wing nuts on it. i called the muffler shop and they said that it would run about $20.00 to install. Is there any other parts i willl need?

That sounds like the FlowTech Race Ready. Make sure you get the right size, and you should be set. It cost me $90 to have mine installed, but I had them put in a couple flanges at the end of my y-pipe too. Just make sure that they don't angle it down too much or you'll have clearance issues. Also, if you decide to go with a Power Plate, it will drag the ground. I'll try to get a pic of my setup tonight and post it for you so you can see what I'm talking about.
