Y-pipe isnt fitting up to headers, whats your solutions?

hey everyone, i purchased a set of hedman 68481 headers from ACS and it includes the y pipe. The headers are on the car but i cant get the darn y pipe to bolt up. The bolts seem to be too short and the flared end on the y pipe hits the buldge on the end of the header. there is about an inch gap between the bolt holes on the y pipe and header and im not sure how to get this thing to hook up. Has anybody else had a similar problem? What did you do to solve it? thanks for any advice!!

That sounds about right to me. As far as I am aware you should have bolts with long shanks and stiff springs that go on the y-pipe side of the flange. The flanges aren't designed to butt together, they should sit apart so that the exhaust has a little flex in it. The springs are to hold the y-pipe and the headers together yet still allow movement.

I wonder why the two sets of headers are different tho? Mine are flanged. So his basically just set in the flanged part of the y-pipe and are held tight by springs right? Seems like youd have a leak, but of course I dont know if there'd be enough pressure inside the system to blow the exhaust backwards out the opening...

There should be no leak. Actually I have heard that ball flanges like what you have and I have on my 2055s are the best sealers because they don't require gaskets.

Yep, he got it all bolted up fine, just waiting for the cat to arrive and it's finished. I've never seen a hook-up like that (and especially him) so we werent sure, but ya it fits like a charm.
Thanks
BTW - they look awesome! Wish you woulda been around when I'd ordered my hedmans, think I woulda had the same done by you. Good job!
