complete exhaust question

I picked up what I thought was going to be a project car but the engine runs well enough that I am gonna keep in there for awhile.
My question is, I want to do a full exhaust from headers all the way back (with cat(s). Right now the car has a TBI 305 and eventually it will have a warmed over 350 so I want to build the exhaust so it will support the 350 when it gets put in.

I search for awhile and still could not find everthing I needed. I want to go with a long tube header and piping large enough to support 400 HP. During my search I found plenty of post about long tubes but where can I find a Y-pipe that will route the piping into the stock location so I can use a off the shelf cat back?

So to sum it up: what longtube/piping size will support 400 HP and where can I find a proper Y-pipe.

Thanks

Can't help you on LTs but I good set of shorties and the Y pipe like the 2055's can handle 400 without sacraficing ground clearance.

When you replace your exhaust make sure you get 3" pipe. If you go with the 2.5" thats ok for your 305 but you would be choking your 350. Make sure it flows as freely as possible and oh ya take of the cat.

lt's are pointless on that 305 unless u get 1 5/8 setups, which will be useless for any engine you may put in in the future over 400 hp...

as it is, 1 3/4 is gonna be way on the big side for a 305

I have no intention of building up the 305. The engine runs fine but the stock exhaust is shot, so instead of replacing it with stock components and then ripping it out when I drop a built motor in I figured I would just build the exhaust to support the future upgrades.

What exactly are 2055's??

As far as piping size is concerned I was thinking 3" as a bare minimum. I know my 150 HP Dodge Neon benefited from a 2.5" catback so I would assume an engine makeing over 2.5 times the power would need some school bus sized piping.

If someone could point me in the direction of these 2055's and a nice catback that would be great

Thanks

Hooker 2055 super competition shorty headers. They have a 3in collecter and come with one of the best 3 in y pipes out there. Do a search on them. There are litarally tons upon tons of information on them on this board as well as online.

Do a search on the catbacks also. Virtually all of the major brands have 3in mandrell bent tubing. I would either go with Borla because it flows the best and has a cutout build into it. Not to mention it is stainless(But it is expensive). Or a flowmaster or hooker set up. They are good aluminum sets, but I recomend getting some aftermarket tips, because the ones they come with really suck.

thanks for the info. I think I am gonna go with the hooker header/Y-pipe setup and the Borla catback.

2055 is the "Super Comp" shorty. Emisisons-legal set-up.

2460 is the "Comp" shorty. No y-pipe available. Not emissions legal.
