Glass Pack

Shorty headers have been found in a yard. No idea what they are. I am running open headers with pipes (tru dual) and i want to have pipes coming out from infront of the rear tires. I am not running a CAT, nor mufflers right now, I will figure out the piping myself. Simple Question. If i put a glass pack per pipe, and ran it out the sides, would it still sound good? I have never heard a glass pack car. Do they sound like a *****? Tell me please what to do, as i am a poor POS kid, who want a nice loud sound, without the pricey ticket from Officer Friendly.

I dont like the way glasspacks sound at all. Bullet mufflers have a better tone in my opinion, but it really depends on the motor it is going on.

Don't meet the "Officer Friendly" criteria.

Glasspacks often don't, either, especially when used in the fashion proposed.

My car runs low 12's and has 2 2 1/2" glass packs with an X pipe and is quieter than most trucks with exhaust. Its all in the setup.

So you think your car sounds good with no mufflers? Ya must be young Glasspacks sounds like crap and belong on hillbilly trucks ...but then again open exhaust on any car, especially on one thats not an all-out race car sounds 100x worse.

Whats up Travis. There is something different about the sound, I can post a clip this weekend if you want. They dont neck down inside like a regular glasspack does, maybe that is it?

i got one

i have a single 2.5 glasspack on my car now. (to dual side exits :lala: ) i love the raspy sound it makes. as for the sounds ive driven my everycop in my sounty and nothing has happened, even roadblocks. so i think you should be fine. exhaust isnt as bad as loud subs not adays. i know there are some sound clips of em on here. if you want cheap they are a great buy. turbo 2s could also be an option

He's talking about no cat, duals with a glass pack on each side, and short tail pipes exiting ahead of the rear tires. A completely different sound than with cat, single exhaust, single muffler, then dual exits.

Completely different...

i know.... i have several friends running them... most with longtubes into X pipe into bullet then dumps under the car combos...

too loud for a daily drive IMO..... cody ran a setup that way too... but he added cats and now its still loud, but reasonable..

then again, (and noone really brings this up in exhaust threads like they should) its 100% dependant upon the engine

a l03 with a open cat sounds ok and isnt loud.... why? because the motor doesnt make much power, its not loud, and the bore size of the 305 just happens to make it sound decient.

meanwhile a hotter 350 would be 4 times louder with the same exhaust. it all depends on the motor. im sure codys setup without cats, while loud on his heavily modded LS1, would be livable with a mild 305 infront of it.

as for why bullets sound the way they do:
take a glasspack that looks similar... cut it down so its the same length as bullets.... and poof... yes they sound ALMOST the same.. bullets are just the modern glasspacks with a diffrent name.

because if you say glasspack, people think *******.
you say bullet and people go "that sounds cool" and buy it.

cool thanks guys, i do not think i shall be installing the glass packs then, I think i will keep the car off the road untill i have a nice set of flowmasters or something equally as pleasing to the ears. No i did not think the no mufflers sound good. But i liked in the insane loudness of it. Though no good for my daily driver, as the car is. Thanks

Re: Re: Re: Re: Glass Pack

My car had a glasspack on it when I bought it, doesn't sound bad I think, though when I get the money I'm getting a real aftermarket exhaust setup.
