Camaro Shorty Headers
Please don't shut this post. I know this isn't going in an F-body but it is about F-body exhaust components. I need to know the width of everyones shorty headers. I need to know the width from the head to the farthest point on the outside of each header. I am thinking a pair of smog legal camaro shorty headers will fit my chevy van tow vehicle but need to know this one dimension. The frame rail is pretty close on the passenger side. I have 2.5-3" from the head to the frame and am hoping I can find a pair that will fit. If I can, I will finally have headers that are smog legal in Dallas, Texas as there are no shorties made for vans, I can't even find a pair with air bungs and the air cleaner heat pipe.

I've been looking for the same. Hooker makes 2459 long-tubes for vans/motor homes, no emissions fittings but you can get an O2 bung reducer or weld a bung into the collector. I don't need O2, but have A.I.R. tubes - I would just going to weld in the stock units. Summit has them in stock for $160.
Doug Thorley makes van/motor home headers, but their website doesn't seem to be working right now.
Hedman 69861 are emissions-legal headers for vans up to 1982. Include the A.I.R. tubes. Should be able to get them by in most states other than California. A bit pricey, $375, but Summit says they can ship them by the end of the month.
I know PAW used to have a listing for van headers, but I don't have their current catalog and they don't have an on-line version.

five7kid,
I was thinking something like these. I think these are the hooker ones but they are available uncoated with smog tubes for like $2?? I see slightly used shortys with air tubes and air cleaner heat pipe including the edelbrock ones on ebay all the time and even with shipping they would be less than $100. Do you think something like this would fit our vans. I am thinking that the camaro probably has a tighter frame rail and I have seen 197?-198? camaro long tube headers used on them.
I also remember you said something about wanting to adress the air cleaner in yours. I know what to do with the air cleaner situation and stay smog legal. The 1987-1992 vans came with an air cleaner that is dimensionally the same as ours. It even uses the same filter. The difference is the air intake tube is about 4x the size. Grab the spacer under the filter between it and the tbi, the PCV tube, the cold air tube (my 1983 has the cut-out on the core support), and of course the air cleaner itself. The hot air tube stays in the same place you just have to plug the vacuum connection because the TBI one uses a wax activated heat valve. You end up with a large, un-restrictive, cold air intake that still has the heat function for winter. Best of all my local yard sold me everything for $10.00. I am currently using a 10" open element with a factory size filter in it. You would not believe how much the factory air cleaner chokes even my 305.
